Counter Sign a Contract

Add a countersigner so contracts are signed by the buyer first, then by your side.

Written by Antonio Sierra

Using your own contract

If the standard template doesn't fit, you can upload your own contract under Docs > Contracts in your settings.

Counter Signing

To counter sign a contract, turn on the Counter Sign button in the e-Sign tab and select the email address of the counter signer. The buyer will receive the document first, and after they sign, the counter signer will receive theirs.
Once both parties sign the document, both will receive an email with the signed document.

Add the counter signer before the contract goes out. Gigwell routes the document to them automatically only if they were added before sending — a counter signer is usually someone at your agency.

If the contract has already been sent

If the contract is out but not yet signed

  1. Go to the Contract tab and click Retract Contract.

  2. Add the Counter Signer.

  3. Click Create Contract (older interface: Create Drafts) to regenerate, then send it again.

If your client has already signed and no counter signer was set

The signing flow has finished, so the counter signature happens outside Gigwell:

  1. Open the Contract tab and go to History.

  2. Download the signed PDF.

  3. Sign it yourself — Adobe Acrobat, or Preview on macOS, both work.

  4. Email the fully executed copy back to your client so everyone holds the same document.

You can then retract the contract and use Upload Signed Contract to store the executed file on the booking.

Good to know

  • Signer, Counter Signer, Buyer and Payer are four separate roles and can be four different people. The Signer signs, the Counter Signer signs after them, the Buyer is the deal contact, and the Payer is who gets invoiced.

  • Because adding a counter signer after sending means retracting and reissuing, it's worth setting them as part of your standard pre-send check.

  • Send Contract Reminder nudges whoever is next in line, so if your counter signer is sitting on it, that's the fastest way to prompt them.
