Amending a fully executed contract

How to amend a contract that's already fully executed

Written by Antonio Sierra

Once a contract is signed by both parties, how you handle a change depends on one question: does the change need to be re-signed? That decides whether you reissue the contract or add an addendum alongside it.

If the change needs both signatures again

Anything that alters the deal — fee, date, venue, material terms — should go back through signing.

  1. Open the booking and make the change.

  2. Go to the Contract tab and click Create Contract (older interface: Create Drafts) to regenerate the document.

  3. Review the new draft and send it.

  4. Your signer, and then your counter signer, sign the new version. History on the Contract tab keeps the earlier executed version, so you still have the record of what was originally agreed.

If the change doesn't need re-signing

For clarifications, added detail or anything both sides have already agreed informally, use a Deal Card as an addendum.

  1. Create a Deal Card on the booking.

  2. Adjust the text so it reads as an addendum to the executed contract — reference the original agreement and state what's being added or clarified.

  3. Send the Deal Card to your client alongside the signed contract.

Good to know

  • Everything on a regenerated contract is rebuilt from the current state of the booking, so make your booking edits first and regenerate once, rather than regenerating and then editing.

  • If you only need to record something internally, Internal Status on the booking is free-form and doesn't touch the contract at all.

  • If the amendment was signed on paper or by email outside Gigwell, retract the contract and use Upload Signed Contract to store the executed file on the booking.
