If you edit a contact's name or email address and the old value reappears a little later — or messages keep going to an address you already corrected — nothing is broken. This is the single most common thing people report as a bug in Gigwell, and there is a specific way to make the change stick.
Why the old value comes back
When a contact is created in Gigwell, it is mapped to a corresponding Google Contact, and that mapping is fixed for the life of the record. The mapping is deliberate: it protects the integrity of the original record and prevents accidental overwrites or data loss on the Gigwell side if a Google Contact is edited or synced unexpectedly.
The side effect is what you are seeing. When you edit a contact inline — from inside a booking or from the Contacts tab — the edit updates the mapped Google Contact only. The original Gigwell contact record stays exactly as it was, so the old name or address appears to come back, and the record keeps sending to the old address.
Don't delete the contact. Contact records are shared across every booking they appear on. Deleting one removes it from every booking, document and invoice it's attached to, it does not correct anything, and it isn't cleanly reversible.
How do I change a contact's name or email? The old one keeps coming back
You will need the contact's original name and email — the values it was first created with in Gigwell, not the ones currently showing.
Open the contact and revert it to its original name and email.
Create a brand-new contact with the updated name and email.
That leaves the original contact and its mapping intact, and the new contact gets a fresh mapping of its own, so the updated details hold. Once the new contact exists, add it to your bookings in place of the old one.
If you don't know the original values
Open the contact and check its creation date.
Look at the bookings that contact is attached to, starting with the oldest. Older bookings, contracts and documents often still show the original name and address.
If none of that surfaces the original values, don't change anything on the contact yet — an incorrect revert can't be undone from your side. Start a chat from the messenger before changing anything, and we'll retrieve the original record for you.
The buyer's name or email is wrong and my edit keeps reverting
For a buyer, promoter or venue contact on a booking with a contract, correct the contact first, then put the corrected contact on the contract:
Open the contact and set the name and email back to the original values.
Create a brand-new contact with the corrected name and email.
Go back to the booking and open the Contract tab.
Click Retract to pull the contract back. Retracting invalidates every signing link already sent, so anyone who had the old email can no longer use it — tell your signers a new one is coming.
Click Manage Documents & Signers and select the corrected contact.
Regenerate the contract and send it again.
Correct this before a contract goes out where you can. Once documents are in circulation you're also managing the signers' confusion about which email is the live one.
My emails keep going to an old address I already corrected
If you fixed a buyer's or an artist's email address and messages keep going to the address you replaced, the inline edit didn't take. Follow the revert-and-recreate steps above, add the new contact to the booking in place of the old one, then send again.
If you've been through the revert-and-recreate steps and mail still goes to the old address, the mapping itself needs removing, which is something we do from our side. Start a chat from the messenger with both the correct address and the incorrect one it keeps falling back to, and we'll take a look.
Good to know
The old contact stays in your account and stays attached to anything historical. That's intentional — past documents and invoices keep pointing at the record they were issued against.
Every contact needs a unique email address, so if the new details reuse an address that already exists somewhere in your rolodex, you'll hit a mapping error when you create the new card.
Watch for this if your contacts sync from an outside CRM, phone or mail account. An external system can overwrite a record and reintroduce an old address after you've fixed it.
If an address never saved in the first place rather than reverting, that's usually about where it was entered. See the article on an artist member's email that won't save.
