Bulk importing artists with Spotify matching

Paste a list of artist names to add them to your roster at once, matching each one with Spotify as you go.

Written by Antonio Sierra

Got a list of new artists to add? Bulk Import lets you paste their names and add them in one go. Gigwell can match each name with Spotify, so you pick the right artist instead of guessing.

Paste your list

  1. Click Roster in the top navigation.

  2. Click the ⋮ at the top right of the roster, then Bulk Import.

  3. Enter each artist name on a new line.

  4. Leave Match each artist with Spotify switched on (it's on by default) to check each name against Spotify.

  5. Click CREATE.

Go through each artist

With Spotify matching on, Gigwell takes you through the names one at a time. The title shows where you are, for example BULK IMPORT – 1 OF 2.

For each name:

  1. On the left, check the Artist Title (the artist's stage name). You can change it here.

  2. Optional: add a Profile Image by clicking Select or Drop Image. Use a square image, at least 200 × 200 pixels. You can upload high-res images up to 1200 px if the image is square.

  3. On the right, check the two lists:

    • Artists on your Roster shows matching artists you already have, so you don't create a duplicate. It works the same way as the CREATE ARTIST dialog you get from the + icon.

    • Suggested Artists shows matches from Spotify, with their follower count. If there's one exact match, it's already selected.

  4. Choose what to do:

    • CREATE adds the artist to your roster, with the selected Spotify match if there is one.

    • SKIP leaves this name out and moves to the next one.

    • Create others without matching creates all the remaining names without Spotify matches.

If Spotify has nothing for a name, you'll see "No matching artists for…". You can still click CREATE to add the artist without a match, or SKIP.

Check the summary

When you've gone through every name, a summary shows the artists that were imported. Names that were already on your roster appear under Already on Roster. Click DONE to close it.

If a message then says some artists you added are already in the list, those are the same names shown under Already on Roster. Nothing went wrong.

Good to know

  • Names already on your roster are skipped automatically. They don't get their own step and aren't counted in "1 of N". You'll find them in the summary under Already on Roster. For example, if you paste three names and one is already on your roster, you'll step through two.

  • Finish the details later. After the import, open each artist from the roster to add their bio, tags, members and assignments. See Artist Profile Settings and Customization and Managing Artist Rosters.
